What is the Trash-A-Thon?
College Park Nursery School celebrates Earth Month by hosting its annual Trash-A-Thon fundraiser, inviting families and community members to come together to clean up litter in our neighborhood and contribute to our school.
The Trash-A-Thon teaches our students about taking care of the environment, and helps us raise much needed funds for our school.
Why A Trash-A-Thon?
It’s a school fundraiser
We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit school and this is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Trash-A-Thon donations go to the Greatest Needs Fund, primarily supporting our financial assistance program while providing flexibility to address other critical needs.
It’s a service project
In honor of Earth Month, our students, families and team members serve and beautify the Earth and our local community by cleaning up litter in our neighborhood in downtown College Park.
It’s a community event
We welcome our College Park Nursery School students, alumni, families, friends and neighbors to join us in picking up litter and to celebrate Earth Month with us at the Trash-A-Thon Bash!
Saving the earth, one trash bag at a time.
Our students are suiting up to save the earth on April 11th, 2026. Will YOU be our sidekicks?
What Are We Fundraising For?

2025 Trash-A-Thon Impact
Last year's Trash-A-Thon raised funds that made a direct difference in our community. Here's how we put them to work:
Access & Affordability — 7 families received financial aid through our Greatest Needs Fund — every family who applied received support. We budgeted $7,000 for scholarships and exceeded that amount to meet growing need. No family was turned away.
Supporting Early Intervention — Over 40 children received free speech screenings, led by UMD graduate students in partnership with our school. Early speech and language screenings can reveal important insights into a child's development, and we wanted every student to have the opportunity to identify needs and access the right support.
Ready to Respond — The Greatest Needs Fund gave us the flexibility to respond quickly when our community needed something we hadn't planned for.
